EVE started with a small group of women who met every month as an informal Women's Circle. We would have a different topic each month and would rotate who would host each meeting. The first year was fantastic, we were very motivated to learn from each other and to share our experiences and knowledge. However, after awhile, it seemed more and more difficult for us to get together. Some months, the person in charge of that month's topic would forget, or not be prepared for the meeting. Other times, things just got in the way. It wasn't easy to keep our meetings fresh and energetic, and keep everyone focused. Some months, we would end up talking about daily things, like our children, spouses, and work, and although this was beneficial, it was not in alignment with our orginial concept of self-growth and sharing. It began to resemble other informal groups and just was no longer feeding our souls. Through this experience, EVE was created. By formalizing a monthly curriculum, our Circles never have to worry about the month's topics. Our Circle gatherings follow a basic structure and agenda so our meetings are focused on the practice of sharing knowledge and learning about ourselves. We ask each member at each meeting to agree to our confidentiality and supportive EVE Agreement, so we always know when we are entering into our sacred space. Each woman is given the time and attention they deserve to share their thoughts, emotions, dreams, and wisdom. By standardizing the topics and proceedings of our Circle, we realized we could offer this model to other women, and they, too, could experience the magic that happens when women gather. Although each Circle is innately different, depending on the Circle Leader, the location, and of course, its members, we do have guidelines for the basic flow of meetings and our EVE policies. We also utilize technology to help deliver our tools and resources, communicate with our circle leaders and members, and draw together our members nationwide. Think of us as your mother's Women's Circle, brought into the millennium! |
